Sea Trial   Manager   for   Damen

Yabba Data Doo is proud to collaborate with Damen Research, Development, and Innovation to modernize their Sea Trial Management System. Damen’s Trial Manager is a critical system that enables engineers to create test reports for the delivery of ships and conduct analyses to improve ship designs using sensor data and measurement results from sea trials.

 

However, the companies existing system needed an update and some new features which make the addition of new modules and the development of modern IT architecture possible.creating a scalable, secure platform to streamline workflows, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance operational effectiveness.

Definition   and   planning

​

The project began with an intensive definition phase where Yabba Data Doo worked closely with Damen’s multidisciplinary team to establish the foundation for modernization. Together, functional and non-functional requirements were defined, and a secure software architecture was designed using the Azure stack.

 

Business processes were analyzed to identify improvements revealing opportunities to a more efficient way of working case for modernization was drafted, supported by a detailed development roadmap. Collaboration with IT, end-users, and business stakeholders ensured alignment across all aspects of the project.

Development and  Modernization

The first development phase transitioned Damen’s Trial Manager system from an existing consolidated into a single, centralized platform, significantly enhancing user experience, IT manageability, and system scalability. 

 

The application was migrated to the Azure cloud environment, improving security and accessibility for trial engineers worldwide. Multi-factor authentication was implemented to ensure robust data protection, and a ticketing system was established to gather feedback and support maintenance.

Testing  and   Launch

Comprehensive IT testing, including penetration tests and code quality reviews, ensured that the new system met the highest standards for security and performance.

Ongoing   Development   and   Future Enhancements

The second phase of the project is currently underway, focusing on the introduction of key features designed to drive further efficiency and quality to process trial measurements onboard vessels, and functionalities for preparing sea trials and managing measurement templates. These enhancements are tailored to further streamline operations and improve productivity across Damen’s trial workflows.
