Modernising   the   Sea   Trial   Manager

Damen’s Trial Manager is a critical system used by engineers to process sea trial measurements, validate vessel performance and create the reports needed for ship delivery.

The existing system needed to be modernised to support evolving workflows, improve data management and make future development easier. Damen’s Research, Development and Innovation team also wanted to bring historical trial data on board, so engineers could compare new measurements against previous data and quickly determine whether a trial was successful.

The goal was to move from a legacy setup to a more structured and future-proof platform that could support trial engineers, improve reporting workflows and enable further development of the Sea Trial Manager system.

Maritime & Offshore

Python, React and Azure

Solution

Yabba Data Doo helped Damen modernise the Sea Trial Manager by developing two connected applications: an on-premise Trial Processor and a web-based Trial Manager.

The Trial Processor supports the processing of sea trial measurements on board vessels, including the use of historical data to compare new measurements and validate trial results more quickly. The web-based Trial Manager centralises the preparation of sea trials, measurement templates, data handling and report generation. Together, the applications streamline how trial data is processed, analysed and used across Damen’s sea trial workflows.

The system was modernised with a secure and maintainable architecture, supported by the Azure stack and designed to make future development easier.

Yabba Data Doo also supported Damen’s internal team during development, helping their developers continue enhancing the system after delivery. Ongoing maintenance was structured under an SLA to support continuity and further improvement.

Value

The modernised Sea Trial Manager gave Damen a more scalable, secure and maintainable platform for managing sea trial data, validation and reporting.

By centralising workflows and improving data handling, the system significantly reduced manual reporting work and made it easier for engineers to process measurements, compare trial data and validate vessel performance. With historical data available on board, engineers can assess trial results more efficiently and create the reports needed to support ship delivery.

The solution also created a stronger foundation for future development. With connected applications, improved data handling and ongoing support under an SLA, Damen gained a platform that can continue to support evolving sea trial workflows.
